Since this is a universal phenomenon, and considering that drug use existed since ancient times, it is necessary a return to its roots, where drugs were part of initiation rituals. Opium, alcohol, peyote, hashish, and other hallucinogens were used to facilitate contact with unconscious contents, images and symbols which were considered sacred and a source of knowledge and wisdom.

The drug was part of a complex process of evolution, had meaning and was used in a targeted and controlled. Its effects were very different from what is observed today. Previously, the drug was associated with the initiation rituals, the rites of passage that accompany the development of the psyche and facilitate their transformation. Over time these rituals, as they are today baptism, marriage, puberty rites, among many other different according to each culture, were losing their strength and meaning and then be replaced by alternative incomplete, devoid of meaning as fads , thus leading to destructive experiences.
